Antwerp

We each carry a unique perspective of our own city, shaped by our individual experiences and backgrounds. But have you ever paused to consider that the place you see and know so well might be perceived entirely differently by someone else?

Welcome to the “Perception of our city” exhibition, a unique exploration of how different groups perceive and experience the vibrant city of Antwerp through their senses

This exhibition delves into the diverse ways in which skateboarders, architects, and art students interact with and are inspired by the urban landscape.

Antwerp – A city rich in history and culture, serves as a dynamic backdrop for this sensory journey. Through the lens of sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste, each group reveals a distinct perspective, transforming the familiar into something extraordinary.

There around 1,061,000 people in Antwerp

Despite being in the same environment, they each see and experience it in their own way.

To understand the different perceptions of the city, I have interviewed three people from three different sub-groups.

Our senses play a crucial role in shaping our perception of the world around us. Sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste collectively influence how we experience and interpret our environment. In the context of a city, these sensory inputs can dramatically alter our perception of urban spaces.

For example, the sight of vibrant street art, the sound of bustling traffic, the aroma of food from a nearby café, the texture of a well-worn skatepark, or the taste of a local delicacy can all contribute to a unique and personal experience of the city.
